Getting Back on Track
Upstate Warrior Solution (UWS) is dedicated to assisting veterans, as we want to support those who served our nation. When we connected with Paul Self, a post Vietnam Army veteran, he was living in his car in Anderson County. Our warrior advocacy team collaborated with Warriors Once Again, a transitional housing facility in Spartanburg, to get Paul stably housed.
In collaboration with Goodwill, our team is continuing to work with Paul to help him obtain his commercial driver’s license. We’ve also assisted Paul with formally connecting to Spartanburg Community Dental Center and Spartanburg County Veterans Affairs’ to make use of their helpful programs.
“I have seldom felt so supported in fulfilling my desires to be a healthy, happy, productive member of society as much as now,” says Paul. “During these past months I have been experiencing homelessness, I never gave up; although I certainly had many feelings come to me that I’d never before known. Thank you for bringing the resources together that we veterans of the U.S. military need to get on track.”
Today, Self has been able to get back on his feet. It is a tremendous accomplishment for UWS when we are able to support goals and assist in meeting the urgent needs of our veterans!
“Know this: there are two parts to being helped, there is the offer of help—which means nothing if the help isn’t available and accepted; then followed through on.” — Paul Self
