Isolation ends here.

Too many veterans and first responders are battling in silence and the cost is too high.

Our training and peer support opportunities equip warriors and their families to build mental resilience and connect with people who truly understand.

Training

This two-day workshop equips you with proven, practical tools for responding to someone in crisis. You’ll gain the knowledge to:

  • Recognize when someone may be thinking about suicide
  • Provide a skilled intervention and develop a safety plan
  • Understand how community attitudes affect openness

ASIST is for any member of the community who wants to increase their confidence, willingness, and ability to offer suicide first aid when it’s needed most. This course is led by LivingWorks ASIST certified trainers.

"This was one of the best trainings I have attended. It prepared me to perform my job with tools I will use to help my community that may have issues with suicide."

For first responders, building mental fitness is about more than wellness—it’s about survival.

This two-day training provides law enforcement, fire fighters, EMS, coroners, and spouses with the tools they need to address the signs of crisis and burnout in their peers—and themselves.

Group-specific training opportunities are offered for command staff, line level, and spouses.

All trainings are led by Bob Gamble, a licensed professional counselor with 23 years of experience in law enforcement and five years as a firefighter and paramedic.

“The training offered through Upstate Warrior Solutions has been invaluable to me. It equips law enforcement officers with the skills to support their colleagues through mental health challenges and stressful situations. This training has not only enhanced my ability to assist fellow officers but also improved my own resilience and emotional well-being.”

Your support as a volunteer Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) mentor could change a life. UWS offers annual informational sessions and training to anyone who wants to support veterans in this way. You’ll receive an overview of the VTC program, hear about the experience from past mentors, and receive some initial training.

VTC mentors act as allies, advocates and friends. Mentors do not give legal advice or engage in counseling.

Ready to step into the mission? Join our next volunteer orientation to learn how you can support. Connect with program leads, explore where your skills fit, and take the first step toward making a lasting impact for veterans, first responders, and families.
