Anderson Elks Lodge #1206 and Upstate Warrior Solution have partnered to deliver critical resources to homeless veterans at their 2nd Annual Stand Down event. Coming just two weeks after the historic impact of Hurricane Helene, both organizations hope this event will be a lifeline for local veterans and their families impacted by the storm.
Resources available at the October 10th event at Lodge #1206 will include free toiletries, clothing, and meals. Veterans will also have access to VA benefits enrollment, medical screenings, employment and housing resources, haircuts, social services, chaplaincy, and more.
During the Vietnam War, a “stand down” referenced a recall of troops to a secure area where they could rest, resupply, and reconnect with family back home. After the war, stand down events began at the community level to support homeless veterans and provide them with resources and services. The 2023 stand down event hosted by Elks Lodge #1206 was the very first stand down in Anderson since the Vietnam War.
