Did you know that in South Carolina the families of first responders who are killed in the line of duty can lose health insurance benefits within 30 days of their loved one’s death? Meghan Jacobs, widow of Greenville Police Department Officer Allen Jacobs, shares her experience below.
As a patriotic state, we value the dedication of our first responders but can do more to support our first responders’ families when they pay the ultimate price. The least we can do for them after their loved one is killed in the line of duty is make sure they’re provided for.
UWS supports South Carolina House Bill 5080 which seeks to extend health insurance benefits to survivor families of first responders killed in the line of duty. We encourage all to contact their state house representatives and ask that they support SC House Bill 5080.
News Update – While SC House Bill 5080 did not pass in the 2024 session, we remain committed to advocating for health insurance coverage for South Carolina’s Gold Shield Families. To stay informed on this issue, please email info@uws.us.
