Upstate Warrior Solution Brings Police Week Observance to the Upstate

While thousands travel to Washington D.C. to observe National Police Week beginning May 12th, Upstate Warrior Solution (UWS) is set to spearhead a series of local events to honor the service and sacrifices of law enforcement here in the Upstate. With a focus on commemoration and appreciation, UWS aims to bring community awareness to this often overlooked memorial and the men and women it honors.

UWS’s Police Week observance will run from May 12th through Peace Officer Memorial Day on May 15th. “Building resources for these men and women and raising awareness of the challenges they face, especially to their mental health, is a crucial part of our mission.” says Theresa Thompson, UWS’s COO. “Too often, Police Week and Peace Officer Memorial Day are overlooked, but it’s an important opportunity to show that we remember, respect, and honor those who keep our communities safe.”

UWS expanded its services to include police, fire fighters, and EMS in 2022, placing special focus on mental health resources. Nearly 120 first responders and spouses have received peer counselling training through UWS. Over 15 of those participants were local chiefs and sheriffs. UWS’s efforts also include advocating for state legislation that supports surviving families and offering supportive services for officers in need.
