Community Collaboration Keeps a Veteran’s Power on
When it comes to coordinating holistic, community-based care for our warriors, Upstate Warrior Solution believes in cultivating long-term relationships with our veterans and their families and working collaboratively to meet their needs.
Charles, a US Army veteran who served with the infantry during the Vietnam War, originally connected with Upstate Warrior Solution in 2018. At that time, we were able to assist him and his son with securing furniture and appliances during a housing crisis. Our team reconnected with Charles during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020 and again in July 2021.
Through our partnership with Veterans Last Patrol (VLP), we learned that Charles was in-home hospice care and was struggling to keep up with his utility bills. His utility costs had increased during the summer months, and Charles was given a week to pay his outstanding balance before his power would be cut off.
In partnership with the Bob Woodruff Foundation, we were able to help Charles catch up on his utility bills within just a few days of receiving the request for emergency support.
Because of the emergency funding made available through the Bob Woodruff Foundation, Upstate Warrior Solution has been able to offer one-time financial support to veterans and their families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the beginning of May 2021, 23 Upstate veterans and their families have received assistance totaling nearly $18,000 through the relief fund.
According to Veterans Last Patrol, who continues to support Charles during his time in hospice care, he is “very grateful and appreciative of Upstate Warrior Solution and their supporters who were able to take care of this worry. Because of this support, Charles can keep his focus on dealing with his medical challenges.”
