Local Warrior Brings Vets Helping Vets Group to Greenville

Growing up, Bobby Stucker was inspired by his father and uncle, from whom he learned what sporting the Air Force uniform stood for. Keeping with the traditions of his Armed Forces family, Bobby joined the Air Force in 1973 as an Aircraft Inspections Non-Destructive Tester. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 20 years. After leaving the military, Bobby repaired C-141’s with Lear Sigler, designed tools for Wright Metal Products, and worked as a mechanical design engineer for Orbis. Today, Bobby is retired from his civilian career and has resumed a busy lifestyle serving his community once again.

Bobby recently resigned from the position of Exalted Ruler for the Greenville Elks Lodge #858 to focus his energy toward founding Vets Helping Vets Greenville, SC, (VHV Greenville) a group that meets weekly at the Elks Lodge for camaraderie and service. “I chose to start Vets Helping Vets to help my brothers and sisters as I’ve seen them struggle. When you are wearing the uniform, it is a totally different world. The civilian world is a whole new culture. My brothers and sisters will not be forgotten and never forsaken.”

The idea to start the Greenville group came after Bobby attended a Vets Helping Vets Anderson (VHV Anderson), meeting. VHV Anderson President, Jessie Taylor, as well as several additional VHV Anderson members and Upstate Warrior Solution are collaborating with Bobby to kickstart the VHV Greenville group.

VHV Greenville intends to offer many of the same services as VHV Anderson, such as home repairs, ramp building, and financial support for veterans in crisis. However, Bobby’s focus will be transportation for our veterans, a need in high demand with minimal resolve. VHV Greenville, SC aspires to change this.

Veterans with an honorable discharge are invited to join VHV Greenville every Thursday from 10 AM to 12 Noon at the Greenville Elks Lodge #858, located at 7700 Pelham Road, Greenville, SC.  Veterans are welcome to join the Board or serve as a member. Bobby is currently looking for a Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. The Elks Lodge provides a safe and comfortable environment for meetings. A basic agenda for each meeting consists of the Pledge of Allegiance, opening prayer, the reading of the minutes from the week before, old business, new business, each participant sharing their story (if he/she chooses), and a closing prayer.
