Warrior Success Story: Jenee B.
As a post-9/11 veteran, Jenee served as a specialist, E-4, in Active Duty U.S. Army from 2004-2009. While in the service, she was assigned communications work. In 2009, she was medically separated with an honorable discharge and started her transition out of the Military.
Due to her service-connected disability, Jenee has been unable to work. She has lived in Greenville County with her six children and partner since transitioning out of the military. Nine years later, Jenee connected with Upstate Warrior Solution (UWS). Since connecting with UWS, Jenee has received a housing voucher from the VA HUD/VASH program.
Because Jenee is unable to work and stays at home with her six children, when the global health crisis was declared in March, Jenee was having trouble keeping up with the bills. In late May, due to our partnership with the VA and HUD, Jenee was referred to Upstate Warrior Solution. Our contacts from the VA HUD/VASH program knew we had partnered with the Premier Foundation to offer the COVID-19 Relief Fund.
Upstate Warrior Solution assisted Jenee with her application for the COVID-19 Relief Fund. Shortly after applying, Jenee’s application was approved, and her electric bill payment was covered.
Jenee was incredibly thankful and was able to produce the documents needed to assist her with the COVID-19 application process. Jenee said she is very appreciative because she did not know how she was going to pay for everything as she had to buy food and get Internet so her kids could do their homework from home.
Because of our partnership with the Premier Foundation, UWS has assisted about 100 veterans and their families and awarded over $60,000.
