Success Story: Rebecca

“Thanks to the peer-to-peer support of Upstate Warrior Solution. They have given me hope.” Rebecca continued, “I will turn my pain into power. This is an awesome group of peers to help me get through this. We are what we go through. By these peers helping me, by talking to me, they have helped me realize what I want to do in life. I’m very thankful for the peer-to-peer support of Upstate Warrior Solution. Y’all are exactly what I need to move forward. I’ll be forever grateful,” said Rebecca, a veteran spouse.

Rebecca was referred to UWS through FAVOR. Rebecca has been an active participant of BECOMING, a program within our Family Services program, since its inception. She has also been offered UWS services, such as initial information, education, employment, healthcare, and one-on-one mentorship. Our team has worked collaboratively to help Rebecca engage and thrive in the community.

“It’s been a culmination of peer-to-peer support and the inclusion of fellow organizations, such as RAINN, in conjunction with her determined inner motivation that is leading her to achieve her goals.” said our Family Services Advocate Virginia, who meets with her once a week as her mentor. “I’m connecting her with empowerment and tools and resources, and she is acting on that.”

“I met Rebecca at the worst time of her life.” Virginia continued,  “I see someone whose world was turned upside-down, who has the inner strength, who through the trauma has turned her pain into power. With conviction, she leads to set an example for her children. She is now determined and motivated to make something of her life, and through the healing process, to help empower others going through trauma once she is ready. I know Rebecca will be successful, and she will create the family dynamics and professional career she aspires to one.”

Rebecca lives with her two children. She has been thriving with her GED classes. She aspires to help others, empower others.
