Success Story: Sharee A.

February is Black History Month, and UWS celebrates the brave men and women, past and present, who have fought for our country and overcame challenges after their time in the military. One of those women is Sharee Ashford. Sharee is from Decatur, GA and became educated at Fort Valley State University. She has served in the United States Army Reserve since 2014. In August 2019, she accepted a position in the #UWS Fellowship Program

Sharee said, “Prior to beginning the Fellowship Program with UWS, I had previously been out of the workforce for what seemed like forever. Much of that time away was spent catering to my, then infant, son who had experienced some health challenges that required a substantial amount of my time and attention. Before I knew it, he had become a healthy toddler, but I had become so engaged with his progress I had no time for my own. Starting the Fellowship, I lacked the confidence that I once had in my professional abilities and felt that I needed an opportunity that would allow me to reestablish some of my talents in a patient, accommodating environment.  During the UWS Fellowship I was able to become a part of an amazing team and do impactful work that helped me refocus my goals and rediscover my passion and abilities.”
